It took me a long time to start appreciating my home city from a photography point of view, yet once I started exploring I discovered that there really is beauty on my own doorstep.

Birmingham city centre contains some iconic architecture which divides opinion but provide an ever-changing skyline. There are beautiful parkland areas, and of course there’s Brum’s vast network of canals – urban and brutal in some areas, but leafy and green havens of peace in others.

I love shooting at Gas Street Basin; there are so many different viewpoints to capture in such a small area.

Photography has opened my eyes to discovering beauty in what others may deem the “ugly” side of Birmingham – check out my shots of Spaghetti Junction for proof!
